We all know meditation has so many benefits, but how do you actually start a meditation practice? There are so many different types of meditation.
From guided to mantra to background music to sitting in silence. There is something for everyone.
It is easy to get overwhelmed.
Here are my tips on how to start a meditation practice
- Start small – Start off with only a few minutes and then start increasing the time you are meditating for. Start with 5 minutes and then maybe increase by 1 minute every day, every other day or every week
- Find a comfortable seat and bring your head over your heart and your heart over your pelvis, ensuring your shoulders are away from your ears
- Your mind will wonder, don’t beat yourself up about it. I like to concentrate on in and exhales, so if a thought pops into your mind, just acknowledge the thought and then come back to your in- and exhales
- Try different meditations, over time you will find what works for you, may it be a guided meditation, sitting in stillness or having some background music
Don’t forget that meditation is a practice, so be patient with yourself and just try different things.
