With me working full time as well as teaching yoga in my free time, I have to be even more organised than I normally am. At the beginning of this year, I have changed my morning routine to make some space for yoga.
Weekday Morning Routine
For over a month I have been getting up between 5:00 and 5:30 every (week) day. After I get up, I make some coffee and work on my yoga business for around an hour. I have a huge list of things to do, so I just work away on my list. At around 6:30 I start getting ready for work.
At the end of last year, I found that I wasn’t able to get any work done when I got home from work, so I decided to do it all in the morning before going into work.
I didn’t think it was possible to change my morning routine, but overall it was quite easy and I’m so used to it by now that even on the weekends I get up early. Not as early as 5 am but I don’t tend to sleep past 7:30 on a sunday, which is my day off.
Weekend Morning Routine
On sundays my morning routine changes slightly. Once I wake up, I make a coffee, grab my laptop and my notebook and go back into bed. I put on some TV (at the moment I’m re-watching ‘Friends’ on Netflix and loving it) and then just chill for a little while. Once I’m ready and awake, I turn my laptop on and work on my yoga work. I tend to stay in bed until around 11 am. Then I get up and start cleaning the house and get some chores sorted.
Changing a routine can be tough, but as long as it’s done one small change at a time, it ususally is ok. The smaller the change, the easier it’ll be to convert that change into a routine.
One thing I’ve noticed is that I’m a lot more produtive now that I’ve changed my routine. All I’m doing differently now is that I’m getting up half an hour earlier and slightly re-structured my day.
