The past week was full of snow days. This meant I was able to work on my projects and prepare my weekend classes with a twist.
My classes were a lot gentler than normal, which gave my students time and space to connect deeper with themselves. It’s so nice to see the progress my students are making. Not just physical. I can see it all coming together. And for them to understand what yoga is about.
What yoga is about
Yoga is not about the postures itself. It’s about connecting to true self and taking time out to look after your body and mind.
Practising yoga with eyes closed really helps connect with yourself. And go deeper. It withdraws the senses from the outside and brings the focus inside. It can be unsettling for students to have quiet in class. But we explored the quiet this week and I ask my students to let come up whatever needs to.
Bring your Focus inside
It’s important to bring your focus inside and see what comes up every now and then. The outside affects us in more ways than we sometimes realise. One of the ways to bring the focus inside, apart from yoga, is through meditation. It’s the perfect way to focus on what’s inside.
Just 5 minutes of meditation a day can make a huge difference in how you feel about yourself. How you perceive the outside world. How you react to it. We are all so reactive. We have to take a step back and let things sink in before we react. Meditation helps to open the heart and be more compassionate.
You can tell that I’m a great believer in meditation. It took a while for me to get into it. But once I ‘got’ it, there was no turning back. If you haven’t tried meditation before, head over to listen to my free meditations. You might not ‘get’ it the first time you meditate, stick with it for a week or two and see how you get on. It’s a journey, just like everything else. Stick with it.
Let me know how you get on and what your thoughts are.
Talk to you next week,
