Pain and trauma, no matter how big or small, are held within the muscles as well as in the nervous system. Everyone holds their tension and emotions in a different place. It’s only once we actively, and with awareness, soften through the whole body that we notice where we hold tension. Doing a regular yoga practice and doing the right poses, helps the muscles release that tension.
Each time you step onto the yoga mat you bring your body, mind and soul together. With each practice, you melt away any trauma that is held within your muscles and nervous system. This in return helps you heal your emotional pain and trauma.
Yoga Poses for emotional healing
Below are five yoga poses that will help you with emotional healing.
- Childs Pose
This pose is a great way to open your heart. Melt your heart down towards the mat and close your eyes. Stay here for 3-5 minutes.
- Baddha Konasana
A lot of us hold tension in the pelvis. This pose is great to release the hips. Stay here for 3-5 minutes.
- Bridge or Wheel Pose
Heart openers are always a great way to heal. It takes a lot of courage to let those feelings in. These poses will help you open up the heart
- Pigeon Pose
This is another pose that is getting into the hips and is a great releaser. Breath into any of the tight spots and notice what comes up. Stay in the pose for 3 minutes on each side.
Notice what comes up after the poses you have just done. Stay here for 10 minutes. You can even listen to a meditation to deepen your healing.
Have your journal nearby. Notice what comes up during the practice and write it in your journal. Write down the words as they come, don’t think about it, just let them flow.
