Yoga is powerful. Yoga changed my life. Read on to find out how and a bit more about my yoga journey.
Why did you start yoga?
I started yoga in 2012 to help me deal with my dad’s loss. I was all over the place and not able to cope for a while. Once I started working through things, I needed more. So I tried yoga. Yoga helped me let go of my thinking mind and for that one hour, I’d just look after myself. It helped me cope with my emotions.
Before starting with yoga I actually completed a six week Pilates course. It didn’t help me quieten my mind or find my connection with myself, so I tried yoga. And I never looked back.
How has yoga changed your life?
Yoga has pretty much changed every aspect of my life. I feel a lot more balanced and calmer. Yoga is the only kind of exercise I do and I have never felt better in my body. After classes, I feel really empowered and I love this feeling.
Last year I completed my yoga teacher training and have since taught yoga every week. It has given me a lot more confidence. I’ve always been a quiet person and during my yoga teacher training, I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to stand in front of a class and guide them through a yoga class. This wouldn’t have been possible two years ago.
Yoga has also helped me find balance off the mat. It has taught me so many things and I know it will teach me a lot more.
Best yoga moment
The best yoga moment so far was teaching at the Brighton Yoga Festival. I only graduated from my yoga teacher training three weeks before. I was nervous and scared. But it was amazing. Having 40 students in class, with the sun shining on us was the best feeling. I think it was in that moment that I thought ‘I can do this’. And I’ve been teaching classes and events ever since.
It’s the best feeling when you see a student progress and connect with themselves.
I’d say, trust your gut feeling. I had the idea to do my yoga teacher training in my head for a while. But I put it off and made excuses. Doing my yoga teacher training has changed my life so much. I feel like I’ve finally found myself. Found somewhere I belong.
Just go for whatever you yearn for. What’s the worst that can happen? You never try and wonder what would have been.
